Foundation : Drawing inspiration from the Apostolic Constitution Provida Mater Ecclesia and the Motu Proprio Premo Feliciter of Pope Pius XII, Mar.Thomas Tharayil formally started CARITAS ARCHEPARCHIAL SECULAR INSTITUTE FOR WOMEN ,the first Secular Institue in the Syro- Malabar Rite, on May 13 th 1961The Constitution and Rules were given by the Bishop(Decree No.B69/62,May 13,1962).The founder himself trained the first members of the Institute, under the assistance of Miss.Clare Vaillancourt, and International Auxiliary and Miss. Maria Mueller of the Wurzburg Medical Mission Institute. Before the Bishop, the candidates,18 in number, took their first profession of vows on June 29,1962 and 11 of them their final profession of vows on June 9, 1972.
